Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy

Treppo Grande, a picturesque village in the province of Udine in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, Italy, offers visitors a range of attractions that reflect both historical significance and cultural richness.

Museo delle Fornaci di Treppo Grande

The Museo delle Fornaci di Treppo Grande is a unique museum dedicated to the history and technology of brickmaking in the region. The exhibition provides a deep insight into the various stages of clay extraction, methods of shaping and drying brick materials, as well as technological advancements in the firing process. Of particular note is the section explaining the operation of the Hoffmann kiln, a complex construction machine used for both firing and drying bricks. Housed in a historic building, the museum is a must-visit for those interested in industrial history and technology.

Castello di Zegliacco

The Castello di Zegliacco is a historic fortress first documented in 1174. It is believed that the castle was built on the foundations of a fortified structure guarding the Via Augusta. While the castle is no longer accessible to the public today, visitors can enjoy the surrounding landscape and appreciate the historical significance of the site. Nearby are also the remains of the ancient villages of Carvacco and Zeglianutto, with only two small churches remaining, likely part of the respective castles.
